The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics are being held on July 26 to August 11 and Paralympics on August 28 to Sept. 8, 2024.

Out of 409 athletes from Japan competing in 31 sports, the following athletes are from Shiga Prefecture. Please cheer them on and wish them all the best of luck!

Native of Hikone where she started swimming from age 6. Graduated Kusatsu Higashi High School and Toyo University. Won two Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medals for the women’s 400m and 200m individual medley at Tokyo Aquatics Centre. Shiga Sports Ambassador.

Born in 2003, her first Olympics. From Kita-Kyushu, Fukuoka, attends Ritsumeikan University. She will compete in two events. The Marathon Race Walk Mixed Relay is new, making its debut in Paris.

Native of Hikone and silver medalist at Rio 2016. Kiryu (b. 1995) is one of Japan’s major track stars. Competed at Tokyo 2020, but his relay team flubbed the baton passing.
Top-notch sprinter since 2013. Started running from when he attended Minami Junior High School in Hikone. His record time in the 100 m is 10.01 sec. and 9.87 sec.

Veteran Paralympic athlete from Ritto, Shiga. After four Paralympic Summer Games starting with Beijing in 2008, he finally won his first Paralympic gold medal for the 100m butterfly S11 at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. Shiga Sports Ambassador.
