{"id":991,"date":"2011-06-10T18:10:03","date_gmt":"2011-06-10T09:10:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shiga-ken.com\/blog\/?p=991"},"modified":"2016-08-13T21:02:12","modified_gmt":"2016-08-13T12:02:12","slug":"fisa-world-rowing-tour-in-lake-biwa-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shiga-ken.com\/blog\/2011\/06\/fisa-world-rowing-tour-in-lake-biwa-japan\/","title":{"rendered":"2011 FISA World Rowing Tour in Lake Biwa, Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Fo4fc8AufeY?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nVideo link:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/Fo4fc8AufeY\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/youtu.be\/Fo4fc8AufeY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>During June 4-12, 2011, about 40 rowers from Europe, Australia, and the US visited Shiga Prefecture to row completely around <a href=\"https:\/\/photoguide.jp\/txt\/Lake_Biwa\">Lake Biwa<\/a>, Japan&#8217;s largest lake.<\/p>\n<p>It is unusual to have so many Western visitors coming to Shiga, so we gave them a warm welcome, especially after the radiation scare in faraway Fukushima. Note that Shiga has had absolutely no increase in radiation levels after the Fukushima nuclear plant accident.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, about 20 people got spooked by the radiation and canceled their trip to Japan. To take the place of these people, the Seta Rowing Club in Otsu (host of this rowing tour) recruited people in Japan to join this Lake Biwa rowing tour. The cost was 120,000 yen which included hotel lodging at Hotel Laforet in <a href=\"https:\/\/photoguide.jp\/txt\/Moriyama,_Shiga\">Moriyama<\/a>, meals, and tour fees.<\/p>\n<p>The tour also included a day trip to see <a href=\"https:\/\/photoguide.jp\/pix\/thumbnails.php?album=111\">Enryakuji<\/a> temple and <a href=\"https:\/\/photoguide.jp\/pix\/thumbnails.php?album=25\">Hikone Castle<\/a> on June 9 when I accompanied the group as a photographer and guide.
