Based on the water-quality test results, the beaches were ranked &#8220;AA,&#8221; &#8220;A,&#8221; or &#8220;B.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Receiving the highest &#8220;AA&#8221; rating were <a href=\"https:\/\/photoguide.jp\/pix\/thumbnails.php?album=28\">Omi-Maiko<\/a> (Otsu), Miyagahama (Omi-Hachiman), and Nihonmatsu (Nishi-Azai).<\/p>\n<p>The second-highest &#8220;A&#8221; rating was given to Matsunoura (Otsu), Matsubara (Hikone), <a href=\"https:\/\/photoguide.jp\/pix\/displayimage.php?album=search&amp;cat=0&amp;pid=1991#top_display_media\">Minamihama<\/a> (Nagahama), and <a href=\"https:\/\/photoguide.jp\/pix\/displayimage.php?album=search&amp;cat=0&amp;pid=29656#top_display_media\">Makino Sunny Beach<\/a> (Takashima).<\/p>\n<p>Earning a &#8220;B&#8221; rating were Nagisato (Moriyama) and Shingaihama (Hikone). A &#8220;B&#8221; rating is still safe enough for swimming.<\/p>\n<p>The water-quality tests measured water transparency, oil film, and E. coli bacteria count. Last year, eight of the nine beaches received an &#8220;AA&#8221; rating, but only three beaches this year were rated that high. Note that the results of the tests can differ depending on the weather of the day when the tests are conducted.<\/p>\n<p>At any rate, Shiga&#8217;s beaches are safe to swim in.
